Room 29B - Mrs. Butorac

 In the Classroom

Hi, my name is Courtney Butorac, and I am the Inclusion Teacher at Lafayette, now in my 5th year here!  I am from Sacramento, California and moved to Seattle when I was 18 to attend the University of Washington.  I have a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education and am a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).  While I have experience working with all types of disabilities, I specialize in Autism Spectrum Disorder.  I have of 17 years experience working with children and adults with disabilities, particularly Autism, in the private sector, recreational sector and in schools.  For three years I worked as a private ABA therapist both writing and implementing programs and helped consult with various families.  Additionally, I have run the summer camp at the Experimental Education Unit for 4 years.  I also run social skills groups throughout the summer, and have collaborated with ASTAR to run middle school PEERS groups.  I am also a member of TAT (Technical Assistance Team), which brings me out into the district 2 times a month to work with students with Autism in other schools.

My other academic passion, besides teaching students with Autism, is teaching Spanish.  I lived in Bolivia and Peru for a year and a half and worked only in Spanish at an orphanage, a maternity hospital, a local outreach program and a high school.  My main occupation was working at a Special Education School and helping to create Autism awareness.  Upon returning from South America, I worked at the Experimental Education Unit at the University of Washington in the ECEAP (Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program) classroom, which consisted of children with disabilities and children who are typically developing, all of who were compromised economically.

My real life passions are traveling the world, reading, playing sports, hanging out with my husband and my soon to be born child!
