About Mr. Beal...

Originally from Vail Colorado, Mr. Beal received his BA from Macalester College in St. Paul Minnesota, and his Masters in Creative Curriculum Design from The Colorado College in Colorado Springs. Mr. Beal has been teaching for 19 years, joining the Seattle Public Schools as a Spectrum Teacher in 2000.

Mr. Beal is a certified facilitator and member of the National School Reform Faculty (NSRF), and continues to train and work with this important organization. He has authored chapters in several education texts, including Excellence in Classroom Management (Publication 2006). He has contributed to The Creative Classroom series, published by Walt Disney Learning, as well as the Washington Forest Protection Agency’s current Environmental Education Curriculum

Mr. Beal is a recipient of the Disney American Teacher Award, appearing on Good Morning America, Oprah, Orlando Morning, and  ABC Television’s Heroes in the Classroom. He has appeared on Who wants to be a Millionaire- Teacher’s Week. Mr. Beal has traveled across the country, representing Disney Learning, speaking to teachers and universities on creative teaching strategies. Dano has been an annual presenter at the Washington Association of Educators for the Talented and Gifted (WAETAG). Mr. Beal has been selected as the Washington State Science Teacher of the year, as well as regional Elementary Science teacher of the year. He has served as a consultant for the anti-bullying program Dewey Doo-it, and Whale Tales, a Seattle based environmental education outreach program. Recently, Mr Beal was chosen by Alaska Airlines Magazine as one of five outstanding teachers on the Pacific Coast.

Mr. Beal has acted as a consult on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) in the areas of Science, Environmental Education, and Fine Arts. Mr. Beal has traveled extensively in Sweden, Europe, Mexico and Greece, but now calls West Seattle home. In his spare time, Dano performs at a local comedy club, and works part time as a cruise director for a local cruise company. Dano is active within the Gay community, volunteering in areas that assist GLBT youth. He thinks that Lafayette Elementary is a terrific place, and he is honored to be working with such committed colleagues… And such talented kids!
